Landed at LaGuardia and headed to our adventure via our first NYC taxi ride over the Queensboro Bridge!
Our very nice taxi driver took us to our "home away from home" in Times Square.
Great location! We settled in, unpacked, made ourselves at home for the next five days, and set out to explore our little neighborhood known as Times Square...maybe you have heard of it?
If you are ever bored in New York City, all you have to do is step outside. You can do some major people watching! It was so cool!
And our first meal in The Big Apple?
Great food. Best. Cheesecake. Ever. The end.
Our first full day of exploring took us to Little Italy, Soho, and Chinatown for starters.
One of our first, and most valuable lessons, was how to navigate the subway. Thanks to a great iPhone app...piece of cake! And it didn't take us long to also learn that, if you are not fortunate to be sitting down the when subway either takes off or stops, you better be hanging on! New Yorkers have it down to a science. They can eat, drink coffee, and talk at the same time without holding on! Such talent!
So, we ventured to SoHo. Such a cool area with great architecture!
We did a little shopping, then made our way over to Little Italy. Also, to all of those companies who have made the awesome street walking maps, Thank You!!
The St. Patrick's Old Cathedral was beautiful. You could just stand there and imagine all the stories behind all the people who had graced those pews over all the years.
Very breathtaking...
Of course, being in Little Italy, we were ready for some Pizza! Found the absolute coolest restaurant with the most amazing pizza. Quality ingredients, thin crust, dripping with cheese...Yum!
Don't you just love it?
And we made our way next to Chinatown. But for some reason I didn't take many pictures there. However we did buy the great ingredients at the market in Chinatown and a cheese shop in Little Italy for our dinner later that evening...and picnic in the room!
Yum!
After our morning on the south side of Manhattan, it was time for a little window shopping on Madison Avenue/5th Avenue
On the way we passed by this...the Fame School! The Performing Arts School! And once again...if walls could talk!
And now, I imagine, the "Fame" theme song is running through your brain. :-)
When we got to the big mecca of shopping we saw Cartier's, Sac's 5th Avenue, almost every store you can imagine. And, the one we were wanting most to see...
Yes. It is as amazing as you think.
What a day! I would say that was a great first day!
